You would think after spending four hours on a food tour sampling 45 dishes around Hoi An we would have had enough to eat for one day. Apparently not.

Last evening we joined our trusted guides, Scottie and Truk, for a true local seafood experience in An Bang.

Forget menus. The restaurant’s menu was swimming in tanks and baskets waiting to be chosen. Fish, prawns, oysters and shellfish of every description were on display, and with Truk guiding us through the options, selecting dinner became part of the fun.

Once choices were made, it was simply a matter of waiting for the freshest seafood imaginable to arrive at the table.

The food was outstanding, but what made the night memorable was knowing we were eating where the locals eat. No tourist gimmicks, no fancy presentation, just fresh seafood, cold drinks and plenty of laughter.

After 45 dishes earlier in the day, common sense suggested we should have skipped dinner. Thankfully, common sense didn’t get a vote
