It seems getting out of Vietnam was almost as challenging as getting in!

The day started with our first flight being pushed back, turning a comfortable connection into a race against the clock. Then came the news that our tickets hadn’t actually been paid for by the booking agent, meaning we had to cough up again at the airport before we could even think about boarding.

Just when we thought the travel gods had finished with us, security had one last surprise. After surviving the great visa drama on arrival, Bryan’s entire collection of e-cigarette devices was confiscated. Let’s just say he wasn’t thrilled.

To top it off, there was no luxury of bags being checked all the way through, meaning another round of queues, baggage collection, taxi to international terminal and re-checking at Hanoi Airport.

At this point we’re starting to think Vietnam doesn’t like saying goodbye. Fortunately, despite the travel hurdles, we’ve escaped with our sense of humour intact. Bryan may have lost his vaping devices, but at least he no longer has to worry about exceeding his baggage allowance.

  1. What a drama! Hopefully you were on the flight I tracked and have arrived safely and without any hassles in Bali. The kids will be thrilled to see you both! xx

    1. Yes much easier arrival process. In car on way to our accommodation to drop off bags before heading over to see everyone
